Johannesburg - A 4-year-old baby girl burnt to death inside a house in Meadowlands, Soweto, on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.
"The mother alleges she went to the loo leaving the baby in the bedroom. When she returned the house was on fire," police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said.
"The baby was burnt beyond recognition."
He said the mother explained that the flames were huge and she could not save the baby.
An inquest and arson docket were opened.
