Johannesburg - A little boy has been declared brain-dead after he was caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Westbury on Saturday night, it has been reported.
Three-year-old Luke Tibbetts was travelling with his mother, three other children and two adults when he was shot in the head, reported Eyewitness News.
He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition. His parents will decide later on Monday whether to switch off his life support machine, eNCA stated.
The shooting happened on the corner of Statler and Croesus streets in the suburb west of Johannesburg on Saturday evening, Warrant Officer Gordon Billing told Sapa.
Tibbetts’s father told EWN he had had enough of the community being terrorised by gangsters.
A 26-year-old man who was travelling in a different car was shot in the arm and was treated at hospital and been discharged.
Tibbett’s death comes just two weeks after the murder of 4-year-old Taegrin Morris who was dragged to his death when hijackers grabbed his parents’ car in Reiger Park.
An earlier version of this article quoted eNCA as reporting that Tibbetts's life support had been switched off.
