Cape cop found dead next to car

Johannesburg - A policeman was found dead in Worcester on Wednesday morning, Western Cape police said.

The 44-year-old officer was found next to his official police vehicle in Culemborg Street, police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said.

"The cause of his death is yet to be determined as he had no visible injuries," he said.

The policeman was on duty and was found dressed in police uniform.

"Preliminary investigation indicated that the deceased left his vehicle at about 04:20 [on Wednesday] and was heard addressing a person or people in the road," said Van Wyk.

Prior to this, the policeman attended to a housebreaking in the area and while his colleague was preparing the docket, he was patrolling on his own.
