Cape fishermen missing at sea

Cape Town - Two men are missing after they went fishing in Paternoster in the Western Cape, the National Sea Rescue Institute said on Tuesday.

The two local fisherman went out in a boat on Monday afternoon and were last heard from around 18:00 on Monday, NSRI spokesperson Craig Lambinon said in a statement.

"On their failure to return from fishing at around 19:30 last night, the alarm was raised."

An extensive search for the men had not yielded any results.

However, the missing boat and one of the three life jackets reportedly on the boat were found washed up on the beach on Tuesday.

This raised hope that the fishermen were wearing the other two, said Lambinon.

Transnet National Ports Authority, the Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre, Telkom Maritime Radio Services, and an SA Air Force helicopter were involved in the search.
