Johannesburg - Gauteng police nabbed a suspect for the murder of 3-year-old Cuburne van Wyk after a photo was circulated in the Reiger Park community.
"Gauteng police have arrested a suspect in connection with the kidnapping and the murder of Cuburne Lavone van Wyk whose body was recovered at the weekend," Sapa quoted police spokesperson Noxolo Kweza as saying.
Cuburne's body was discovered on Saturday at a mine dump in Reiger Park after going missing four days earlier while playing in front of his home with his siblings. The body was partially burnt.
After the toddler went missing, community members joined the hunt for suspects, Eyewitness News reported. The man was arrested in Germiston on Wednesday.
Residents said they saw Cuburne leave with the man, who had apparently offered the toddler and his siblings biscuits.
Cuburne’s death comes less than a month after the murder of 4-year-old Taegrin Morris who was dragged to his death by hijackers in Reiger Park.
There have been no arrests for Taegrin’s murder.
