Johannesburg - A Northern Cape police spokesperson says an elderly man and a woman have been arrested in Kimberley after being found in possession of mandrax with a street value of around R1.2m.
Spokesperson Donald Mdhluli said the pair were arrested on a train which had just arrived from Johannesburg en route to Cape Town.
He said: "[Police] swiftly attended to the complaint and a 72-year-old man as well as a 49-year-old woman were found to be in possession of about 12 439 suspected mandrax pills that had been placed in two bags."
It was not known where they were heading to.
"Whilst on the scene police also arrested a 42-year-old man for being in possession of about 1.8gr of cocaine," said Mdhluli.
All three of them were charged with possession of drugs.
They are expected appear in the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Monday.
