Hitch-hiker arrested with drugs in her luggage

Kimberley - A woman hitch-hiker has been arrested after drugs were found in her luggage, Northern Cape police said on Tuesday.

The 53-year-old was arrested while on her way to Onseepkans at the weekend, Lieutenant Olebogeng Tawana said.

"The arrest was effected after we reacted promptly to a tip-off about a woman hitch-hiking with luggage, suspected to be filled with drugs.

"As a matter of urgency all the roads leading in and out of Onseepkans were patrolled."

A woman matching the description was spotted on the R358.

Dagga and Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of R67 000 were found in her luggage.

She is due to appear in the Onseepkans Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on a charge of dealing in drugs.
