Joburg woman throws puppy over spiked fence

Johannesburg - A woman was arrested for allegedly throwing a puppy over a spiked fence in Daveyton on the East Rand on Thursday morning, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

The 22-year-old allegedly threw the sick puppy over the 2m fence as she claimed she had no time to take it to the SPCA, Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago said.

"The equestrian unit superintendent witnessed this horrible deed unfolding as he was driving down Lurie Road next to the Mayfield Mall in Daveyton," Kgasago said.

The puppy was taken to the equestrian unit headquarters and given medical attention.

"It had sustained serious injuries to its hind legs."

The woman would appear in the Benoni Magistrate's Court soon on charges of animal cruelty.
