Forty-eight-year-old Benedict Zulu was shot in the leg shortly after 16:00 while he was operating a speed camera along Elias Motsoaledi Road in Dobsenville, Soweto.
"As his partner was walking to their patrol car which was parked about 200m away, he heard gun shots. He turned and saw three men running into the bushes towards a mine after robbing the injured officer of his firearm," said Minnaar.
The partner then called for back-up and metro officers and members of the police responded to search for the gang.
"Three male suspects have been arrested but the firearm is still missing. The officer is in a stable condition at Milpark Hospital," he said.
Investigations were on going but it appears that the gun
was the motive for the robbery. The three are expected to appear in court
during the course of the week.
