Police shoot dead 5 robbers in Bloemfontein

Bloemfontein - Police shot dead five cash in transit robbers in Bloemfontein on Friday, the Hawks said.

"Five are down. Eight are arrested," said spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said.

He told SAfm the police received information that a Protea Coin van had been robbed by a group of heavily armed men in Henneman road.

"We were caught in fire with them and we managed to fatally shoot five of them," said Ramaloko.

Eight robbers were arrested.

The conditions of the robbers who were shot were not immediately known.

Ramaloko said police also recovered vehicles that were used in the heist attempt.
