Zuma, DA given deadline to agree on tapes

Bloemfontein - The Supreme Court of Appeal is prepared to give President Jacob Zuma and the DA another opportunity to resolve their differences regarding the so-called spy tapes.

Their lawyers have agreed in principle that a third party, a senior legal mind, be asked to judge what information was part of Zuma's confidential representations to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

The tape transcripts and other documents relate to an NPA decision to drop corruption charges against Zuma.

The parties have until 16:00 Friday next week, 22 August 2014, to deliver an agreement to the SCA to be made a court order.

Shaun Rosenberg, for the Democratic Alliance, said they would agree in principle to such an agreement.

"If the parties cannot come to an agreement the high court's decision would stand."

"If we cannot come to an agreement the original order stands," Zuma's counsel Kemp J Kemp submitted in reply.

Judgment was reserved.

The North Gauteng High Court ordered the NPA to hand over a copy of the tapes to the DA.
