Durban – A KwaZulu-Natal high school teacher who allegedly filmed himself having sex with a pupil will remain in police custody after appearing in Nquthu Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The teacher, employed at Ekucabangeni High School in Nquthu, was charged with two counts of sexual grooming, two of rape, and one of sexual assault, provincial National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Kara said.
His case was postponed to September 7.
MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana opened a case against the teacher.
The teacher, who cannot be named to protect the identities of his alleged victims, was suspended following the claims.
Another four teachers at the school had been suspended for allegedly having sex with pupils, the MEC’s spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said.
Last week, the teacher’s lawyer, Bruce MacGregor, wrote to News24 to plead his client’s innocence. He said media were reporting allegations as fact. The teacher claimed the sex videos show him with adult partners. He denied having sex with underage pupils.
