Baby, 5 others killed in horror truck crash in Mpumalanga

Six people - among them a baby - died when a coal truck and a vehicle collided on the R546 Standerton road between Evander and Embalenhle on Saturday afternoon.

According to a statement by ER24, when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the truck and the vehicle on the side of the road.

Parts of the truck were still on fire.

"Upon further assessment, paramedics found a baby and four adults outside of the vehicle. One other person was still entrapped in the vehicle.

"Unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for them and they were declared dead at the scene," ER24 spokesperson Ineke van Huyssteen said in the statement.  The truck driver sustained no injuries.  "The exact circumstances surrounding the incident were not known to our paramedics, but police were on the scene for further investigations."
