Cape Town – An ambulance crew was ambushed and the crew robbed while they were transporting an eight-year-old boy to Red Cross Hospital.
The boy had sustained severe head injuries in a car accident earlier and was being transported via the N2 to the children’s hospital.

While on the highway, the ambulance was forced to pull over as stones lie on the stretch near Borchard’s Quarry at about 01:10.
Western Cape Emergency Medical and Forensic Pathology Services spokesperson Robert Daniels said the ambulance had been stoned, along with other motorists on the N2 near Borchard’s Quarry.
The crew was robbed at gunpoint.
“A second ambulance was dispatched to transport the patient but the trauma to his head was so severe and he sadly passed away at noon at Red Cross Children’s Hospital,” Daniels said.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed that cases of robbery and malicious damage to property were opened at Nyanga police station.
Three suspects are believed to be behind the attack.
No arrests have been made.
