Residents have been evacuated from a building in Johannesburg's CBD after a fire broke out on the first floor on Thursday afternoon, emergency services told News24.
The fire has since been extinguished.
The building is on corner of De Villiers and Rissik street.
Emergency services spokesperson Nana Radebe confirmed that there were no fatalities.
“For now, we are not sure what caused the fire but have managed to evacuate everyone. We will do the final search to ensure that no one was left inside.,” she said.
She said emergency services were alerted to the blaze around 14:00 and dispatched three fire trucks to the scene.
Radebe said firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading to other floors of the building.
She added that preliminary investigations would be conducted to establish what caused the blaze.
