A 51-year-old warrant officer and his 50-year-old wife On Wednesday appeared in the Port Elizabeth Specialised Commercial Crime Court for fraud.
Vusumzi Patrick David and Olivia Nondumiso David allegedly committed fraud to the tune of R630 000.
"The couple was arrested yesterday in Port Elizabeth following an investigation by the Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit of the Hawks," Captain Anelisa Feni said in a statement on Wednesday.
The couple allegedly posed as estate agents to at least four victims seeking to purchase homes.
"They allegedly promised to help the victims to purchase houses in the Port Elizabeth area. The accused then allegedly collected just over R600 000 and failed to deliver the houses as promised," Feni explained.
The couple were granted R2 000 bail each and are expected back in court on October 5, 2018.
The Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit has also appealed for more possible victims to come forward.
