Dan Plato will be the next mayor of Cape Town.
The DA announced on Tuesday that Plato, currently MEC for community safety in the Western Cape, will replace Patricia de Lille.
De Lille, along with DA party leader, Mmusi Maimane announced her resignation, effective from October 31, on Sunday.
This was the culmination of a long battle between De Lille and her party.
Plato served as Cape Town mayor previously, when Helen Zille left City Hall to become Western Cape premier.
The DA also announced that its leader, Mmusi Maimane, decided to decline the request for him to stand as the DA’s candidate for Premier of the Western Cape.
