Denosa Gauteng chair suspended

Johannesburg - The Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA's Gauteng chairperson Simphiwe Gada has been suspended following alleged negative comments he made on radio about the Cosatu congress.

Gada confirmed to News24 on Thursday that he was informed on Wednesday night of his suspension and he would face a disciplinary.

"There was a special NEC [national executive committee] meeting last night which took a decision that I must be placed on suspension with immediate effect.

"For now I'm going to allow Denosa to do what it needs to do as dictated by the constitution. I respect that decision and when they summon me or sanction me to a disciplinary, I will attend and represent myself," said Gada.

Gada called into PowerFM on Monday evening where he said he was speaking in his personal capacity and not as a chairperson of Denosa.

He was complaining about the 12th national congress, which was being held in Midrand, Johannesburg, voting on credentials.

Still shocked

"My personal opinion is that Cosatu is gone because what is happening there for instance to vote on credentials which is a constitutional matter is something that is wrong," Gada told Laurence Tlhabane.

Gada was also upset about a decision taken at the congress not to reopen nominations for uncontested positions.

"What we just witnessed there was pure daylight robbery of Cosatu from its own members. What you have there is people who are just robbing workers of their own organisation. At this moment I'm not even proud to be part of that federation...I am still shocked."

He said Denosa should look at whether being part of Cosatu was of any value.

Gada on Thursday would not talk about his comments but said "anybody that will listen to the comments made [by me] may formulate their own opinion".

He would not give any further information or speak about the merits of his case.
