Durban – A 31-year-old driver has been killed and four passengers were injured after the car they were travelling in veered down an embankment on Milky Way Road in Dassenhoek, Pinetown, west of Durban, on Friday, police and paramedics said.
"The driver died at the scene and the four passengers were seriously injured and taken to hospital," said Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
The cause of the accident was unknown at this stage, he said.
Garrith Jamieson, Rescue Care paramedics spokesperson, said when paramedics arrived at the scene they found the single vehicle had overturned, coming to rest on its side.
The driver was trapped in the wreckage, said Jamieson.
"Paramedics assessed her and found that she had sustained major injuries and there was nothing more they could do for her and she was declared deceased on the scene," Jamieson said.
Mariannhill police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and circumstances around the incident, added Zwane.
