Fire put out at Rand Water Eikenhof Pumping Station as technicians assess damage
Johannesburg's City Power says the fire caused by the explosion at the Rand Water Eikenhof Pumping Station on Monday has been extinguished.
City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said technicians were on the scene assessing the damage caused. They would determine how long it would take to restore power.
This after Rand Water spokesperson Justice Mohale earlier said that an electrical transformer belonging to City Power had exploded.
The incident happened around 13:00.
Mohale said it would affect water supply in parts of western Johannesburg, the West Rand, and Rustenburg in the North West.
Power outages were expected in Naturena, Kibler Park, Alveda, Rand Water, Eikenhof and Lougherin.
The Johannesburg Prison was also affected.
