Hawks recover firearm used in murder of East London cop

The Hawks have recovered the firearm that was allegedly used in the murder of an East London investigating officer.

Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson Captain Anelisa Feni said the firearm was recovered in Ncera village in East London on Tuesday.

The same day, two men were arrested at East London Airport.

Sinethemba Sikoti and Andile Marwanqa, both 30, briefly appeared in the East London Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

They have been charged with murder and the unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The matter was postponed to October 2 for further investigation and for the men to appoint legal representatives.

Sergeant Simphiwe Sahluko, 42, stationed at Beacon Bay, was shot dead on Sunday at his home in Nompumelelo, where his mother also operated a tavern.

"The two suspects allegedly visited the tavern during the afternoon and Sahluko asked one of them to leave. It is unclear at this stage why he did so. It is alleged that both suspects left but returned at approximately at 20:00 and shot and killed him," she said.
