An off duty police officer has been shot and killed by her partner in Sundumbili, KwaZulu-Natal during a domestic dispute on Saturday, police said.
"She sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body and died at the scene," provincial spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said in a statement on Sunday.
The officer has been identified as 40-year-old Sergeant Nonhlanhla Lindiwe Mazibuko who was stationed at Mandeni Police Station.

She had been off duty in Bhidla Section in Sundumbili with her partner when the incident occurred around 17:30, Naicker said.
The man, 43, later handed himself over to the police and is expected to appear in court soon on a murder charge. Police also recovered a firearm suspected to have been used during the crime.
Acting provincial commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi condemned the latest killing of a KZN police officer, saying the police force was "angered and disturbed" by Mazibuko's death.
"The South African Police Services has been robbed of yet another foot soldier in such an unnecessary and tragic manner.
"We extended our deepest condolences to her family and colleagues who are understandably still shocked."
Mazibuko's family will receive health and wellness support from the service, Mkhwanazi said.
