Limpopo doctor allegedly rapes girl, 17, in his surgery

Polokwane – A 52-year-old doctor who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in his surgery appeared in the Nkowankowa Magistrate's Court, in Limpopo, on Thursday on a charge of rape, police said.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the doctor would be held in custody until October 17 for a formal bail application.

Ngoepe said it is alleged that the teenager had gone to the doctor's surgery in Nkowankowa at about 16:00 on Monday for a consultation when she was raped.

"On arrival, she was called into the consultation room and the suspect started examining her and during that process, he raped her," he said.

The matter was reported to the police who reacted swiftly and started preliminary investigations that led to the suspect's arrest, said Ngoepe.

"Police investigations are still continuing," he said.
