With that, Zondo adjourns the commission for today.

McBride says the media should question where they get their information from. "Where are you getting your 'leaks' from and why?" says McBride.
McBride: "Journalists should have enquiring minds, they should question, they should have... and I say this, conscious of the irony; they should have a healthy cynicism and suspicion, like an investigator should have. Like we exercised in IPID in assessing information."

The provisional report, signed only by Khuba, was informed by Crime Intelligence investigations and delivered under pressure by the NPA, both constituting interference in IPID, says Pretorius.

After the ConCourt ruling, McBride says he returned as IPID head and requested a handover - which was refused, and he was told by Kgamanyane that everything he did, he did under instruction from his supervisor, which McBride took to mean the minister of police.

Zondo and Pretorius are currently seeking clarity on the differences between the "two reports", mentioned by McBride throughout his testimony.
There was a report with three signatures, including McBride's, which McBride regarded as the final report. There was also another report that was only signed by one person, being Khuba. Zondo seeks a distinction between this and the earlier mentioned "unsigned report", or "preliminary report".

Zondo requests that the commission obtains the Werksmans report into McBride.
Pretorius says the legal team is concerned that the Werksmans allegations are not relevant to the commission's terms of reference.

McBride says the charges against him were withdrawn on the 1st of November 2016, after he and the other accused insisted on a trial.

Pretorius, now dealing with the issue of Dramat's suspension (and eventual early retirement), refers to a document which stated that Dramat was investigating high-level corruption cases and the rendition case was trumped up to effectively get rid of him.

McBride suggests Nhleko knew about the preliminary report because his predecessor, Nathi Mthethwa, was made aware of the preliminary investigations. "The ministry is the ministry," says McBride.

Pretorius: "Were any of the reasons given in any notice of suspension, or in any disciplinary charge, or in any allegation in any report, or in any finding of any report, finally successful in relation to the termination of your services, or the prosecution on a criminal basis, of you?"
McBride: "Never. Never, chair."

McBride mentions an occasion when Nhleko shouted at him and verbally abused him. "He got up from his table and started verbally abusing me all the way" until he reached the boardroom table, sat down, and continued, says McBride. Nhleko told him "any time you conduct a raid, you must inform me beforehand".
McBride says there was also someone else present in the room, who he had not met before. He was later told this man was General Berning Ntlemeza.

McBride says he is not sure why Nhleko was unhappy with him obeying the law. "He seems to misunderstand his authority and how it is undermined by me engaging with the people's Parliament," says McBride.
McBride: "The minister did not understand where his authority begins and ends, and the issue of openness. He preferred Werksmans to Parliament."
