'Reservoir levels decreasing'

Johannesburg Water on Tuesday said reservoirs supplying water to Honeydew, Aeroton, Meadowlands and Linden were decreasing.

"Soweto's water capacity has already been throttled by 50%."

The Crown Gardens reservoir and tower were empty by 14:35 on Tuesday.

"Customers receiving water directly from Rand Water are urged to continue using water sparingly."

Johannesburg Water said 20 roaming tanks would be roaming in different places, as it didn't have the capacity to place tanks in every street.

"At the moment, we are prioritising vulnerable facilities such as hospitals, clinics and schools."

Johannesburg Water has placed water tankers at strategic locations across the city to assist residents after a power outage caused by a fire at the Eikenhoff pump station resulted in large parts of Johannesburg being without water.
