No arrests have been made following the murder of a young woman found in a bush in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, on Tuesday, Western Cape police have said.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andrè Traut said the woman had been assaulted and possibly raped by an unknown suspect.
Lentegeur community police forum spokesperson Anthea van der Vent said a passer-by had come across the woman. She was still alive and the pedestrian alerted emergency services.
However, when EMS arrived, they declared her dead, Van der Vent said.
The woman was a 25-year-old local, she added.
In a separate incident, Mitchells Plain police were investigating a shooting in Tafelsig on Tuesday.
A 22-year-old woman was killed after being shot in Mongoose Street at about 22:55, Traut said. A 34-year-old man was wounded in the incident.
