Mbombela - Mpumalanga Premier David Mabuza is expected to return to work next week Tuesday - after more than 50 days of being on sick leave.
His spokesperson, Zibonele Mncwango, told a News24 Correspondent that Mabuza had been on sick leave since the first week of September this year.
"The Honourable Premier has been on sick leave since the first week of September... [he] is expected to return to work next week Tuesday, 17 November 2015, to resume his position as the premier, provincial ANC chairperson as well as that of the founder of the DD Mabuza Foundation," said Mncwango.
Mncwango said Mabuza had planned to return to work on the second week of September but felt a need to extend the period to allow him to recuperate.
However, he indicated that Mabuza's return next week still depended on a final word from his doctors.
'He is in good health'
"If his doctors are fully satisfied with his condition, he is expected to be back in office on Tuesday," said Mncwango.
Mncwango said Mabuza also forgave those who spread rumours that he had died.
"He says he forgives all those who spread the rumours that he had died and calls on them to be supportive, caring and loving to other people and their families. Premier Mabuza has also thanked Community Safety Security and Liaison MEC Vusi Shongwe for the leadership he provided as the Acting Premier in the provincial government while he was away," he said.
ANC officials recently visited Mabuza at his home in Barberton and were satisfied with his recovery process, according to ANC provincial secretary Lucky Ndinisa.
Ndinisa also dismissed social media rumours that Mabuza was being kept in intensive care at a private hospital in Gauteng.
"The social media rumours are totally untrue. Initially I could not comment on the matter because the premier's office was handling the situation. Now, as we speak, we visited him at his residence, not in hospital. He is in good health and will return to work any time soon. All the people in the province must rest assured that the premier is well," Ndinisa said.
