No arrests for Pretoria ward councillor's murder

No one has been arrested for the murder of a Pretoria ward councillor, who was gunned down on Wednesday night, Gauteng police have said.

The 46-year-old councillor for a ward in Winterveld, north of Pretoria, was attacked by a gang of gunmen. There were two children and another passenger with her at the time, provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said.

She cannot be named until her family has been informed of her death.

"They fired shots at her. She was wounded and taken to the hospital," Dlamini added.

He said the woman later died in hospital.

The other passenger, who was wounded in the leg, was taken to hospital and the children were not injured.

The police are investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.

Dlamini said no arrests have been made and that the motive for the attack was unknown.
