Paraglider rescued in Porterville

Cape Town – An almost seven-hour rescue operation saved the life of a paraglider near Porterville, in the Western Cape, on Tuesday.

The paraglider had been hanging off the side of the mountain since 14:30 on Tuesday. He was rescued around 21:30, Wilderness Search and Rescue spokesperson Johann Marais said.

Paramedics and technical rescuers were taken to the scene. They put the man on a drip and stabilised him. An SAAF Oryx helicopter was used in the rescue.

The man would be flown to Air Force Base Ysterplaat and taken to hospital via ambulance.
