Police probe fire in which 2 adults, 2 children died

Pretoria - Police continue to probe the cause of a shack fire in which two children and their parents died in the Lusaka informal settlement in Mamelodi over the weekend, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

The children, aged seven and eight, and the adults, aged 30 and 37, were killed when the fire broke out in a shack late on Friday night and into the early hours of Saturday morning, police spokesperson Lieutenant Kay Makhubela told News24.

No other shacks were affected by the fire.

Makhubela said the cause of the fire remained unknown.

Asked about reports that a gas cylinder was found in the debris, Makhubela said that police were still investigating the circumstances of the fire.
