UPDATE: Road reopens following deadly Limpopo bus crash

One of the lanes of the N1 southbound, outside Polokwane, Limpopo, where 10 people died after a bus overturned on Friday morning, has been reopened.

Police spokesperson Constable Mienkie Ramakgoakgoa said a case of culpable homicide was being investigated.

"It is still not known what led to the incident, but we continue to investigate," he said.

At least 10 people were killed and 34 injured, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring told News24.

'People scattered around vehicle'

Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene and found the bus on its side next to the road.

"Numerous people were found scattered around the vehicle.

"Upon assessment, paramedics discovered that 10 people had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Nothing could be done for them and they were declared dead on the scene," he said.

Five people sustained critical injuries, while 29 others sustained minor to moderate injuries, he added.

Meiring said patients were transported to various hospitals for urgent treatment.
