Saturday's weather: Partly cloudy but hot across most of SA

It is expected to be partly cloudy across most of the country, but high temperatures persist on Saturday.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the north-eastern parts of the Eastern Cape as well as the central Free State.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the western parts of the North West as well as the northern parts of the Northern Cape, according to the South African Weather Service.

The weather in your region

It will be cloudy at first in Gauteng. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme south from late evening. The expected UVB sunburn index will be very high.

Mpumalanga will be cloudy with morning fog and drizzle along the escarpment. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the south.

It will be cloudy in Limpopo with morning drizzle and fog along the escarpment. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm to hot.

The North West is expected to be fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers, except in the north west.

It will be fine and cool to warm in the Free State. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered over the central parts.

The Northern Cape is expected to be cool along the coast with morning fog. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the north, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated thundershowers in the extreme east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate southerly to south-easterly.

It will be cloudy at times along the south coast of the Western Cape at first. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm to hot but very hot in places over the West Coast District and interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly to southerly but strong over the south-west at first. The expected UVB sunburn index will be very high.

The Eastern Cape will be cloudy with mist over the south eastern parts and the interior in the morning. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm but hot in the north. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected over the east, but scattered in the north east. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate easterly.

It will be cloudy with morning fog over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal. Morning scattered showers and thundershowers are expected along the north coast and adjacent interior. Otherwise, it will be warm but cool in places in the west. It will become partly cloudy in the afternoon with isolated showers and thundershowers. The wind along the coast will be Moderate easterly to north-easterly freshening in the south by afternoon. The expected UVB sunburn index will be low.
