A security guard was shot and wounded in a cash-in-transit heist in Kanyamazane in Mpumalanga on Thursday morning.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo told News24 that the security guard was shot in the hand when a group of armed men ambushed the vehicle.
"An undisclosed amount of money was taken during the heist," Naidoo added.
The vehicle had been transporting pension payout money when it was attacked in Legogote Road, opposite Mgwenya College of Education, according to media reports.
The reports suggested that the robbers used explosives to blow up the vehicle.
Naidoo said he didn't know where the vehicle was coming from or where it was headed.
"I don't have that information. That will form part of the investigation," he added.
