Thursday's weather: Mostly cloudy but warm to hot across SA

It is expected to be partly cloudy at first over most of SA, but temperatures are expected to rise later on Thursday.

Severe thunderstorms are expected over the northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, according to the South African Weather Service.

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over parts of the North West.

Gauteng will be partly cloudy and warm but hot in the north. The expected UVB sunburn index will be very high.

It will be cloudy in the east of Mpumalanga with morning fog patches over the escarpment. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and warm. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected in the east.

Limpopo will be fine in the west at first. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and hot.

It will be fine and hot in the North West, but partly cloudy in the extreme east during the afternoon.

The Free State will be cloudy in the extreme east with morning fog patches. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm, but partly cloudy in the east with isolated thundershowers in the extreme east from the afternoon.

Morning fog is expected along the coast of the Northern Cape where it will be cool. Otherwise, it will be fine and warm to hot over the interior. The wind along the coast will be fresh to strong south-easterly.

It will be fine and warm but hot over the north-western parts of the Western Cape. Otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool over the eastern parts with morning drizzle along the south-east coast, becoming fine and warm over the north-east. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-easterly becoming strong north of Cape Columbine, but moderate to fresh south-westerly along the south coast. The expected UVB sunburn index will be very high.

The Eastern Cape is expected to be cloudy and cool with chances of light rain in places in the south. It will become cloudy in places by the afternoon. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-westerly.

Morning fog is expected over the interior of KwaZulu-Natal. Otherwise, it will be cloudy and cool but warm in places in the north. Scattered showers and thundershowers are expected. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly, becoming moderate south-easterly by evening. The expected UVB sunburn index will be high.
