Weather Update: A cool Sunday for most of the country

While light snowfall covered the Drakensberg and at Van Reenen’s Pass, the high mountains in the Eastern Cape and Lesotho, as well as along the N3 near Harrismith on Saturday afternoon, extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the central and eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the central Karoo of the Western Cape and the north-western interior of the Eastern Cape on Sunday.

Cloudy mornings with a drizzle and fog patches along the escarpment are expected in Mpumalanga and Limpopo, otherwise partly cloudy and cool becoming fine in the afternoon. 

Strong interior winds (45-60 km/h) are expected in places in the Central Karoo.

Partly cloudy is expected in places in the east of the Free State and in the North West, otherwise fine and cool. 

It will be cold in places in the extreme east and windy in places in the south-west of the Free State in the afternoon.

Gauteng can expect morning mist in places, otherwise partly cloudy and cool becoming fine from the afternoon.

The Northern Cape will be fine and cool to warm and windy. It will be foggy along the coast in the evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly to north-westerly.

The Western Cape will be fine and cool but partly cloudy in the west and south. It will become cloudy with rain in the south-west from the afternoon spreading to the south coast overnight. It will be windy in the Central Karoo.  

The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh westerly but strong north-westerly in the south-west. It will become fresh south-westerly in the late afternoon.

Kwazulu-Natal will be partly cloudy in the north at first, otherwise fine and warm but cool in the west. The wind along the coast will be moderate north-westerly in the north at first otherwise moderate to fresh northerly to north-easterly.
