Weather Update: Light rain expected for the Western Cape

Light rain can be expected in the Western Cape over the weekend.

Warning

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Free State, northern interior of the Eastern Cape, western interior of KwaZulu-Natal and the western parts of the North West province. 

Special weather advisories

Strong winds (50 to 60km/h) are expected over the northern interior of the Eastern Cape.

Rain

Isolated showers and rain are expected, except in the northeast parts of the Western Cape but scattered over the southwestern and southern parts, where thundershowers are also possible.

Isolated evening showers on the southern high ground in the Northern Cape can be expected, and over the south and southeastern parts of the Free State.

Light snowfalls can be expected on the peaks of the southern Drakensberg.

Temperatures

Cool morning conditions are expected across the country with warm weather along the East Coast.

The coldest places will be Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape, dropping to a below-freezing -1°C.

Maximum temperatures are expected to be cool across the central interior and southern parts of the country, with cold conditions over the eastern parts of the Northern Cape.

Warmer weather is expected along the northern border, the North West, and parts of the East Coast.

The warmest place is expected to be Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal, reaching a high of 28°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 25°C, while both Johannesburg is expected to reach a maximum of 23°C. Bloemfontein is expected to reach a high of 24°C.

Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a maximum of 16°C, Durban will reach a high of 21°C and Port Elizabeth is expected to reach 27°C.
