More rain has been predicted for Cape Town on Wednesday, bringing with it the hope of a further increase in dam levels.
Snow showers are also expected over the province's mountain peaks.
Warnings
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over Gauteng, the central and eastern parts of North West, the northern parts of the Free State and across Limpopo and Mpumalanga.
Watches
A gale-force westerly wind of 64-75km/h, with gusts of up to 85km/h, is expected in places between Cape Agulhas and Plettenberg Bay, spreading towards Port Edward by Wednesday evening.
Special weather advisories
A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected in Gauteng, the eastern parts of Mpumalanga and most parts of Limpopo until Wednesday, persisting over the Western Bushveld of Limpopo until Thursday.
Hot and humid conditions will result in extremely uncomfortable conditions over the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo until Wednesday.
Extremely hot conditions are expected in places over the Lowveld of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Rain
Isolated showers and light snow falls are expected along the mountain peaks of the Western Cape, but scattered showers are expected along the coast and the adjacent interior of the Northern Cape.
Temperatures
Minimum temperatures are expected to be cold along the central interior of the country, including the Free State, the North West, the Northern Cape and the Little Karoo.
Cool to moderate conditions are expected along the coastline and East Coast, and warm weather has been predicted for the north.
Sutherland in the Northern Cape is expected to be one of the coldest places, dropping to 0°C.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be cold across the south-western parts of the country including the Western Cape and the south-western parts of the Northern Cape, and extremely cold conditions are expected over the Sutherland region.
Cool weather is expected for the central parts of the country as well as the southern coastline.
Warm to hot weather can be expected for the Highveld region, while very hot conditions are expected along the northern border as a heat wave persists.
Skukuza in Mpumalanga is expected to be one of the hottest places, reaching a high of 42°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 35°C, while Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of 33°C and Bloemfontein a high of 22°C.
Along the coast, Cape Town is expected to reach a high of 14°C, while Port Elizabeth is expected to reach a high of 18°C and Durban a high of 25°C.
