Frosty conditions continue into the weekend with flood warnings in some parts of the country and thunderstorms, gale-force winds and snow in other parts on Saturday.
Warnings
Localised flooding is expected along the coast and adjacent interior between Mossel Bay and Port Alfred, moderating from the west.
Watches
Heavy rain leading to flooding is expected over the northeastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the extreme eastern parts of Mpumalanga from the afternoon.
Severe afternoon thunderstorms are expected over the eastern high grounds of Mpumalanga and Limpopo.
Disruptive snowfalls are expected over the Swartberg mountains in the Western Cape, the Sneeuberg and the Winterberg and the Tsitsikamma mountains of the Eastern Cape, and the southern parts of the Drankensberg.
Gale force SW winds of 35 Knots are expected between Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred in the early morning.
Special advisories
An intense cut-off low is expected to affect parts of the Western Cape, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape over the next few days.
The public and small stock farmers have been advised that very cold conditions and snowfalls on the high ground are expected.
Rain
Isolated showers and possible thundershowers are expected for the Eastern Cape, KZN, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, northern Gauteng, eastern Free State, southeastern Northern Cape and eastern Western Cape.
There is a possibility of heavy rain in eastern Mpumalanga and northeastern parts of KZN.
Temperatures
Minimum temperatures are expected to be cold across the southern, western and central parts of the country, while moderate conditions are expected in the northern and eastern parts of the country.
The coldest place will be Sutherland in the Northern Cape, dropping to a below-freezing -3°C.
Maximum temperatures are expected to be warm in the northern parts to hot in the extreme north of the country.
Cold conditions are expected in the western, southern and central parts, with very cold temperatures along the southern border of the Northern Cape and the Karoo in the Eastern Cape.
The warmest places will be Skukuza in Mpumalanga and Musina in Limpopo, reaching a high of 34°C.

Pretoria is expected to reach a high of 22°C, Johannesburg a high of 19°C and Bloemfontein a maximum of 14°C.
Along the coast, Cape Town is expecting a high of 16°C, Port Elizabeth a high of 14°C and Durban a maximum of 18°C.
