An Eastern Cape woman has been stabbed and killed in her bed, while lying next to her 10-year-old daughter.
The 44-year-old victim, Nolundi Vumsindo, was sleeping in her home in Holela Village, Centane, next to her daughter when a man pushed into the house at around 03:30. He stabbed the woman, before running away.
The child was not harmed and has been referred to social workers for counselling.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha says the motive for the murder is not known.
"Eastern Cape Police provincial commissioner, Lt General Liziwe Ntshinga has condemned the murder of a defenceless woman. She vowed that Centane police detectives will work around the clock to trace and arrest the suspect," he added.
