Cape Town - The Economic Freedom Fighters will go to court to fight suspension from Parliament, party leader Julius Malema said on Thursday.
Malema said the party would give National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete a deadline to give assurances that she would not move to suspend its 25 MPs in the House, and should she fail to do so, seek an urgent court interdict to prevent suspension from the legislature.
"We don't believe there is any basis for such a suspension.
"We are going to apply for an urgent interdict, interdicting her and Parliament from suspending us because we don't think there are bases for any of us to be suspended.
"So we are all 25 of us going to approach the high court individually."
EFF MPs on Thursday received formal letters from Mbete asking them to motivate why they should not be suspended from Parliament for disrupting a sitting last week.
"We received the letters today [Thursday] and we have to respond by tomorrow," said MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.
Last Thursday, the EFF defied orders from Mbete to leave the National Assembly after they disrupted presidential question time.
They chanted that President Jacob Zuma should repay public funds spent on his home in Nkandla.
Mbete was forced to adjourn the sitting.
