WATCH: Armed thieves attack cash-in-transit guards in Boksburg

Four armed assailants robbed two G4S guards at a shopping centre in Boksburg last Tuesday.

CCTV footage of the incident shows a guard walking from the Cashbuild store in Dawn Park with a money bag. The group of men then approach the guard and attack him. 

The clumsy thieves almost made off without the money, after the bag fell from the boot of their white Volkswagen Jetta. 

They quickly picked the bag up and made a hasty escape.

Police told News24 that before that, there had been a shootout between the suspects and the guards.

"Shooting started between the guards and the suspects, and the suspects went to a white Jetta with an unknown registration and drove away with the undisclosed amount of cash," said Constable Nkemeleng Mabula, Dawn Park police spokesperson.

He said no one was injured in the crossfire.

A case of armed robbery was opened but no arrests have been made.

"The case is still under investigation," said Mabula.

G4S could not be reached for further comment after numerous attempts.
