Four children who died in a shack fire in Alexandra, Johannesburg, were laid to rest on Thursday in an emotional ceremony.
The children were locked in a shack on Sunday and left unattended by their mothers who were later arrested at a local shebeen.
According to Captain Stephen Malatji of Alexandra police station, the children – aged between three and six – were home alone when a blanket caught fire.
Residents, teachers and community leaders showed up in numbers to pay their last respects to the deceased children.
The mothers, who were remanded in custody, did not attend the funeral.
