Safer, not crowded and on time. These are some of the promises President Cyril Ramaphosa made on Tuesday at the launch of two new trains at Cape Town station.
A total of 35 new trains will be rolled out by the end of 2020.
"We are going to improve our rail transportation," Ramaphosa said on platform 24, where the ribbon-cutting took place.
"We are going to make sure that our trains run on time and that they are not crowded," he said.
Ramaphosa last month had a first-hand experience of the frustrations rail commuters face on a daily basis when the train he was travelling in from Mabopane to Bosman station in Pretoria was stuck for almost three hours.
