Eighteen families who refused to vacate a piece of land meant for a housing project in Joe Slovo, Langa, were evicted on Wednesday morning.
Department of Human Settlements spokesperson Ntomboxolo Makoba-Somdaka said moving the families would allow the department to complete the N2 Gateway housing project.
The families had been delaying the project since 2013. However, they were evicted on Wednesday in terms of a court order.
Masibulele Hodi, a resident at the settlement, said he did not know where he would be sleeping because alternative accommodation was not provided for them.
