Residents of the Cape Town suburb of Philippi East on Sunday begged Police Minister Bheki Cele to deploy more officers to patrol the crime-ridden area.

The minister was conducting a walkabout in the area to engage with residents.

Philippi is one of 10 precincts where Cele said that South African National Defence Force (SANDF) troops would be deployed.
