Turkish Airlines suspends Irbil flights

Ankara - Turkish Airlines says it has suspended flights to the Iraqi city of Irbil until further notice.

The company said on Friday it halted flights for security reasons after US jets dropped bombs on Islamic militants who were towing artillery outside of the Kurdish regional capital, near US personnel.

Turkish Airlines' flights to other Iraqi cities are not immediately affected.

The air strikes targeted the extremist Islamic State group, which controls large areas of Syria and Iraq.
