Morgan and Bode Miller, who’s an Olympic ski champion, lost their daughter two months ago after she drowned in a neighbour’s swimming pool.
On Friday 17 August, Morgan shared a heart-breaking photo on Instagram of her holding her two-year-old daughter Emeline “Emmy” Grier in hospital.
“I wish I could have one more day to hold you, but until that day comes, continue to work through me and give me the strength to bring awareness, my love,” Morgan, from Orange County in California, wrote.
“I told you as I held you in this moment that you could still change the world, you could still move mountains.”
Morgan also paid tribute to a boy named Levi Hughes (3) who drowned on the same day as Emmy, People reports.
“Every step we take forward is because of you and Levi. Your footprint will forever be left on this world. I love you, my baby girl,” she wrote.
Emmy drowned on 9 June in a neighbour’s pool. She was taken off life-support the next day, Metro News reports.
In their first televised interview since the death of their daughter, Bode and Morgan shared the painful details of the incident in the hopes that it will raise awareness about child drownings.
“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t pray for the opportunity to go back to that day and make it different,” Morgan said in an interview on the US Today Show.
“But now we have this opportunity to make other parents’ days different.
“We have the choice to live our days with purpose, to make sure that no other parents had to feel what we’re feeling.”
The heartbroken couple – who have two other children and are expecting another one – say that they still feel guilty about their daughter’s death.
“Guilt is a very painful thing,” Morgan says.
“And even though it’s awful and living with it is terrible, and I hope and pray and beg that it gets easier, I’m now much more aware in that area to make sure it doesn’t ever happen again.”
