A couple is hoping the law can help them evict their 30-year-old son from their home.
According to BBC, court documents reveal that Michael Rotondo doesn’t pay rent or help his parents, Christina and Mark Rotondo, with chores around the house.
The frustrated parents have even offered to give him $1 100 (around R13 750) to get him settled, but Michael refused the offer.
The couple claim they gave Michael a note in February telling him to vacate their home within 14 hours, reports WSTM.
“We’ve decided that you must leave this house immediately,” the couple wrote in the letter.
After ignoring their wishes Christina and Mark gave their son, who moved back in with them eight years ago, a second notice asking once again that he leave their property.
Over the past few months the parents have handed their son five notices and decided to sue him because they’ve “had enough”, according to Fox 40.
But Michael claims he hasn’t received any letters from his parents and says he’s owed at least a six-month notice before moving out.
“I’m getting together the means to do that,” Michael said.
“My parents want me out right away. They’re not really interested in providing reasonable time and the court is siding with them it seems."
But during a recent court hearing New York State Supreme Court judge Donald Greenwood said Michael’s six-month notice period request is totally “outrageous” and ordered the New York native to pack his things immediately, reports CNN.
A discouraged Michael told the media that he hoped for a longer notice period to sort out his personal matters.
“It seems to me like I should be provided with, you know, 30 days or so. Because generally you get 30 days after you’re found, you know, to have to vacate the premises.
“So I’m expecting something like that. But realistically, if that’s not the case, I don’t know.
“I don’t really hope to reconcile. I really just want to get out of the situation,” he said.
