A Brazilian court on Wednesday sentenced former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to 12 years and 11 months in jail in a new conviction for corruption and accepting bribes.
Lula, 73, is already serving a 12-year term for corruption in a separate case. The leftist former leader ruled Brazil between 2003 and 2010.
In the new conviction, Lula was found guilty by a court in the southern city of Curitiba of accepting renovation work on a country home in exchange for ensuring state-run oil company Petrobras won government contracts.
