A mountain biker was killed while cycling in the French Alps.
Marc Sutton, who relocated to France from Britain, was killed by a stray bullet riding near Montriond ski resort on Saturday, 13 October, BBC reports.
The 34-year-old, who owned a restaurant Wild Beets Kitchen in Les Gets, was shot by a young hunter.
The 22-year-old man was rushed to hospital in severe shock, Metro reports.
The British foreign office said they were in contact with the French authorities and would be providing support to the biker’s family.
The hunter is yet to be arrested but local prosecutors are investigating a case of aggravated manslaughter, according to The Guardian.
“He was on a popular and well-used track, although it was hard to get to and wouldn’t have been very busy as darkness approached,” an investigative source said.
“It may be that he was mistaken for a fast-moving animal.”
Tributes from devastated friends and family have poured in for Marc on Facebook.
More than 20 people have died in hunting accidents in France in the past three years.
